December-April is the best time to go, as it is the dry season. The rainy season is June-November, with September and October being the rainiest months.
The best way to see the country is by private air charter. This is the quickest, and you get to see the entire country by air. Otherwise, domestic flights, as well as private transfers, are good alternatives. The roads are very narrow, hilly, and curvy, so we do not recommend renting a car. Be sure to learn a few basic Spanish phrases, as everyone does not speak English—especially in the more remote areas!
Brownell works with several family-friendly hotels and resorts and local on-sites when booking Spring Break to Costa Rica. With a plethora of activities suitable for families, children will never grow bored here! Zip-lining through the rainforest, the Sky Tram tour of the rainforest, white-water rafting, and waterfall repelling are all very popular.
