Do I need a passport?
Yes, even though the Riviera Maya is super close and easily accessible, it is still a different country and a valid U.S. passport is required.
Is it safe to visit?
Absolutely. None of the violence has been targeted at tourists. It is also only along the border. The Riviera Maya and Cancun are hundreds of miles from the nearest violent outbreak.
What are the best resorts for honeymoons?
Brownell works with a handful of fabulous hotels and resorts in Riviera Maya—many that are adults-only! This is a great option for honeymooners, as it is often less expensive than the rest of the Caribbean (the silver lining of all the bad press). You can get so much more value; and there are many 4-5 star properties that are ideal for honeymooners.
