When to Book a Villa in Europe

There are so many benefits to staying in your own private villa. You can spread out and relax with plenty of space, enjoy peace and quiet (goodbye noisy neighbors in the next room!), and immerse yourself in a new destination. Villa holidays offer privacy freedom and flexibility for families and groups traveling together who don’t want to be bound by hotel rules. Enjoy breakfast by the pool (after 10am if you like!) and dine at your leisure. The pool doesn’t have to close at 6pm and, with a 24 hour contact, neither does the reception desk. And in Europe, you can use your villa as your home base while you explore iconic cities and charming towns. A private villa is the ideal base for families, and our partners at A&K Villas have a range of properties with facilities for children of all ages; whether that’s a games room for teenagers or cots, play areas & shady spots for little ones, their range of villas really can cater for everyone.

So now that you know why you should stay in a villa, the only question is when should you go. We share when to book a villa in Europe based on each season below.

Winter

The weather may be chilly, but there’s nothing like a relaxing evening by a roaring fire in your private villa in the United Kingdom. Imagine spending quality time during the holidays with your family in a setting where you can disconnect with life’s stressors and connect with each other. (Need inspiration? Watch The Holiday!)

  • Portugal also has lots of events! Anyone with a sweet tooth will love the Obidos Chocolate Festival, and cinephiles will want to head to Lisbon for the IndieLisboa International Film Festival.
  • Italy in April is a little cooler than the summer months which makes it the perfect time for sightseeing and with so many historic places of interest and beautiful towns & cities to visit you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Summer

With warm weather and longer days, summer is prime time to explore Europe – and it’s no secret. Avoid the crowds in the main resorts and immerse yourself in a destination by staying in a private villa. Your advisor will work with our partners at A&K Villas to find the perfect location and villa for you, whether you want it near a golf course or the beach, in a foodie hot spot, fully-serviced, or something in between.

What to Do:

  • Take day trips to the bigger cities
  • Explore off-the-beaten-path towns
  • Cool off in the Mediterranean Sea
  • A&K Villas’ concierge services can arrange tickets to sights or a private chef in advance so you can enjoy a hassle-free holiday. And, with Europe being busy in the summer, having access to a concierge with great local contacts really can get you into places that would be otherwise unavailable.

Fall

Fall is a great time for foodies in Italy! The September harvest season fills local markets with fresh, regional produce. And if you want to get involved, it is also grape harvest season! This season is also a great time to visit Italy and avoid the throngs of tourists.
