Brownell Independent Advisor Irene Quisenberry recently returned from a fabulous voyage from Rome to Venice on Silversea’s Silver Cloud. Read more about her adventure below.

I just returned from Silversea’s Silver Cloud, 7-night cruise from Rome to Venice navigating the boot/heel of Italy. The itinerary included unique ports-of-call like Taormina, Brindisi, and Dubrovnik. I was joined by my Virtuoso Voyages co-host and mother-in-law, Linda Quisenberry.

The Silver Cloud

This small luxury ship (just 300 guests!) anchored or docked in smaller harbors – far from the larger cruise ships AND crowds. This itinerary was a part of the new Virtuoso Voyages program. Virtuoso guests enjoyed a complimentary onboard cocktail reception with some of the Silver Cloud officers and a generous $150 shipboard credit per person. (Amenities vary by sailing.)

Exceptional Service

As soon as we embarked, we were warmly welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine and then escorted to our beautiful stateroom, where we were met by our personal butler (all stateroom categories have butler service on Silversea!). He immediately established our stateroom preferences, including chilled wine and sparkling water in our beverage center. And throughout the journey, the crew always greeted us by name – they were never stiff or unapproachable.

On-Board

The atmosphere onboard was very convivial and social. We enjoyed daily trivia with fellow guests, destination presentations on each port-of-call, and exquisite specialty dining at La Champagne.

Shore Excursions

En route to the port in Civitavecchia (just outside of Rome), we arranged a private transfer with Brownell’s preferred Italy partner who suggested a lunch stop in the tiny medieval town of Ceri whose history dates further back to the Etruscans. We strolled through this quaint, off-the-grid town – not another tourist in sight – and dined at a rooftop eatery overlooking the countryside. Our first meal was genuinely local and authentic to this part of Italy. We’re sure the restaurant staff was amazed we even found our way to this small cranny in the Rome province.

Our Travel Partner also arranged for a full-day experience from our port-of-call in Sorrento: A privately guided tour of Pompeii followed by a drive along the Amalfi Coast and lunch in the postcard perfect town of Positano. Our driver always found the most photogenic stops for my mother-in-law and me and offered his local insight on the best shopping and dining options.

Final Thoughts

Silversea’s exceptional service, cuisine, accommodations, and public space exceeded my expectations like always. And we took our trip to a new level when we paired the Silversea on-board experience with shore excursions arranged with Brownell’s trusted travel partners. Each excursion can be tailored to fit your specific interests in that destination. Whether you’re fascinated in history, architecture, regional cuisine, or local artisans – we have the resources to personalize and enhance your cruise experience!
