Just Back From: France with Uniworld

Brownell Independent Advisor Winn Harris had an incredible journey through France aboard Uniworld’s S.S. Joie de Vivre with other travel advisors. Learn more about her trip below.

Ship:

uniworld-interior-2S.S. Joie de Vivre

Length of Trip:

8 Days

Where did you go?

The Seine: Paris, Giverny, Rouen, Honfleur, Normandy, Versailles. and Paris

On board highlight:

I cannot say enough about the ship’s interiors…they were perfection—gorgeous fabric walls, the most beautiful trims, linens, Hermes bath products, fixtures—all of it! The owner’s wife, Bea Tollman, designs each ship personally and hand picks all the antiques, lighting, bedding, etc. She does an amazing job at making sure the boat reflects the area it cruises. We had lovely weather, so the upper deck for lounging, reading a book, or having a glass of rose’ was a treat! It was the perfect place to gather with fellow travelers to reflect on your day!

Destination highlight:

Every stop was truly a highlight—and each stop so very different than the other. I had not been to Paris before and had an amazing time. However, the Beaches of Normandy, American Cemetery, and Giverny were all more than I had anticipated and inspirational in their own way.

Activity highlight:

I absolutely had a ball biking to Monet’s grave and Giverny. The countryside was stunning, and biking was a wonderful way to “feel” your destination.

Favorite meal:

All the food onboard was top-notch! My favorite experience was our private French cooking class in the wine cellar—lots of learning and laughs!

Insider Tips for this Cruise:

Definitely pre-book the onboard cooking class. There is also a bistro in the back of the ship that can be reserved for small groups. It’s a tad more casual than other venues. Also, spend a day pre- or post-cruise in Paris – it’s always a good idea!

Packing Tips:

The ship is super casual during the day. You can wear yoga pants/exercise clothing for active days. On the days that aren’t as active, wear jeans/pants and, of course, comfortable shoes. I highly recommend layers and a light/cotton scarf. A small crossbody that zips is great for keeping up with your essentials while touring. There is one dinner that is a little dressier, but by no means formal—black dress and pretty shoes/accessories are perfect!

Ideal passenger for this cruise:

This cruise would be good for friend groups, girls trips, couples, and families.
