Brownell Senior Marketing Coordinator Austin Vollmer recently returned from a relaxing getaway in the Caribbean with SeaDream Yacht Club. In lieu of a traditional Thanksgiving, Austin and her mom set sail on the SeaDream I for a 5-night trip out of Antigua. Thanks to the small ship size (there are only 56 cabins!), SeaDream’s vessels can go to smaller ports and hard-to-reach destinations. Get an inside look at Austin’s experience below:
Where did you go?
Antigua, St. Bart, Anguilla, St. Kitts, Nevis
“Caviar in the Surf” The crew plans a picnic (but with caviar and champagne) and a full lunch on a private beach just offshore. We spent the day on a private beach with gourmet food and a gorgeous beach.
St. Bart. It is making a serious comeback post Hurricane Irma with nearly ½ of all shops and restaurants already re-opening. The beaches are just as gorgeous as before the storm, but with virtually no tourists!
Why cruise to this destination?
Most of the islands have very small airports with limited air lift. SeaDream lets you see a great collection of the smaller Caribbean islands without the headache of complicated travel logistics.
SeaDream offered many activities that I didn’t get a chance to do, like horseback riding on Nevis and zip-lining through the jungle on St. Kitts (Looks like I will have to go back!). The one I did that I loved was a beach excursion to Shoal Bay Beach on Anguilla—rated one of the top beaches in the world!
Banana pancakes at breakfast, dining al fresco of course!
Schedule your spa appointment in the morning. Late afternoon cocktails by the pool watching the sun set are a must, and a major social aspect of the boat.
Know Before you go:
Each stateroom has one US outlet/plug. If you are traveling with multiple devices, you may want to consider bringing a back-up charger.
You don’t have to pack for every day of your SeaDream cruise. The boat offers laundry service at a very reasonable price.
Who would like this trip?
Anyone that loves the water, and enjoys an intimate cruising adventure. The marina on the back of the boat provides a plethora of water sports that are all included. Paddle boarding off the coast of St. Bart in the Caribbean sea…who wouldn’t be interested in that?!
