Below are a few of our choices when dining in Athens for an authentic Greek meal. Many places you can enjoy great food while gazing onto century old ruins, making for a truly unique dining experience.
Grand Bretagne Hotel: Their rooftop restaurant is amazing and has stunning views of the Acropolis. Reservations are required, so make sure you mention this to your Brownell Advisor so we can make this memorable dining experience happen for you!
Psasa’s: This Greek tavern features fresh fish and other delicious cuisine. Many of our Advisors recommend sitting on the upper level of the back patio or you can opt for the nice street seating to get a feel for the buzzing urban life of Athens!
Ouzadiko: This ouzerie in the Lemos Building is always bustling. It is a popular place amongst the locals, so reservations are recommended, but not required. There are a ton mezzes and ouzo to choose from, so feel free to ask for a variety or sampler so you can taste a little bit of it all! The atmosphere is one of genuine Greece: Athenians eating, drinking, and talking passionately. This locale gives you a good sense of the people and food in Athens.
Ratka: Ratka is a bar-restaurant with a 30-year prominent presence, great flair and a distinctive aura of a stylish Parisian bistro. Ratka retains a loyal crowd of chic (and many celebrity) Athenians who are attracted by its reputation. A multicultural array of dishes is available to choose from, true to its sophisticated metropolitan ambience. Try the fillets cooked on stone, the excellent sushi or one of their innovative salads. Accompany your meal with a fine wine or champagne from its discerning wine list and relax in this elegant environment to the sound of mellow ethnic, jazz and classical music.
Paper Moon: This world-acclaimed Italian restaurant favored by fashion icons, with locations in New York, Milan, Istanbul and Tokyo, now has a location in Athens in the upmarket City Link shopping complex. Ideal for an Italian treat following an exhausting shopping session, you will be offered a selection of salads, pizza and pasta dishes prepared using authentic Italian recipes. The food is consistently well-prepared and high quality.
Baraonda: Baraonda is a luxurious club-restaurant located behind “Leoforos” Stadium, old home to Panathinaikos FC. Businessmen, politicians and plain showoffs are often spotted here. This restaurant can be difficult to attain a reservation for, so alert your Brownell Advisor and you may be surprised that a table is saved just for you. Be sure to dress to impress when dining here. Don’t worry about leaving after dinner to enjoy a fun drink… This neo-Baroque venue is a full scale club too!
48 The Restaurant: 48 offers brilliant Greek cuisine in some jaw-dropping ambiance. Renowned for its peinirli, the food can be savored in either an indoor or an outdoor setting. The brilliantly marinated sea-food can be had either fried or raw. To top it all off, traditional desserts like ice-cream halva are sure to salivate many a tongue. One can enhance the dining experience by having the food along with one of the 450 wines in offering. This former art gallery has high ceilings and a big industrial space with fantastic design and lighting. The food here is exceptional — inspired dishes use traditional Greek ingredients in new ways. The menu changes daily according to the find of the day from the local markets. The wine list alone offers more than 500 labels from the owner’s private vault in Paris.
