Brownell Honeymooner’s Guide to Greece

We sat down with Brownell traveler and newlywed, Anna Middleton, to get the scoop on her Mediterranean honeymoon. Centuries old architecture, stunning views of the sea, and endless wine and olives will have all the lovebirds saying Opa! Follow along as Anna and Theo take on Greece.

Why did you choose Greece? Did you consider any other destinations?

Theo and I wanted to go somewhere we both had never been before so we could experience that place for the first time together! Greece had it all, the beach, the history, and the opportunity for more traveling. We did have other places in mind but we quickly ruled them out after seeing the package Brownell put together for us on Greece.

Where did you go?

We started our trip out in Athens and then flew to Mykonos for our second stop and finished our trip in Santorini.

How long were you gone?

A total of 9 days.

Where did you stay?

In Athens we stayed at the Grande Bretagne. The hotel is in walking distance to the Acropolis and has breathtaking views from their rooftop restaurant. In Mykonos, we were on the beach at the Mykonos Grand Hotel and Resort. It might have been our favorite! In Santorini, we stayed at a Boutique Hotel called Altana Traditional Houses and Suites in the town of Imerovigli. The caldera was right out front so at any time you could walk over to the next city.

What was the highlight of your trip?

The catamaran sunset cruise in Santorini that my sister and brother-in-law booked us! It was the perfect way to spend the afternoon getting to visit the red and white beaches, hot springs, and to see the view of the island from sea level.

What were your favorite activities?

The walking tour of the Acropolis in Athens was incredible! Also, renting a car on Santorini, I would highly suggest that to anyone so you can see the whole island!

Any standout moments that made your honeymoon extra special?

The first night we were in Athens we were having dinner at our hotel on the rooftop and we ran into good family friends of ours, the Stephens! It was such a fun surprise! They were so sweet to send us over a bottle of champagne to kick off the trip!

How was planning process with Brownell?

Absolutely flawless. We had the best time working with Brownell Advisor, Laura Clark. She made it super easy for us and especially easy when we were actually on the trip. Everything was taken care of from start to finish.

Tips for someone planning their honeymoon?

Please use a Travel Advisor! Also, make sure to do your research on the time of year you are traveling to that destination. June is when we went to Greece and that was right before peak time so we lucked out!

Tips for someone traveling to Greece?

Be sure to get currency beforehand and a plug converter. Also, there are not a lot of taxis on the islands so make use out of the hotel transportation or bus shuttles.

What was your favorite meal during the trip?

The grouper from Amoundi Bay Sunset Tavern in Santorini or the tuna tartar from Koundaus in Mykonos. Oh, and no matter where we went the breakfast was unbelievable!

Any packing tips for visiting Greece?

Don’t bring heels! You will walk the majority of the trip.

Any special souvenirs from the trip?

Artwork of the Caldara from Santorini and we couldn’t leave without bringing home some of our favorite Santorini wine!
